RawHyde Explores
(June Ride)

THE PIUTE MOUNTAINS & KENNEDY MEADOWS:

This ride epitomizes what the term GS stands for (if you ride a BMW) if you don't ride a BMW this ride is really awesome anyway. GS is a short acronym meaning Gelande/Strasse. In German it means cross country/street and that's just what this ride is all about.

Here is the itinerary

Day 1 – Thursday:

This ride will begin at the RawHyde Ranch, please plan to arrive on Thursday, around 4-5 pm. You can get your tent set up in our "camping area" and meet your fellow adventurers.

Day 2 -Friday:

After a delicious ranch breakfast we hit the pavement for about an hour … heading north toward Bakers field. We'll drop down into the central valley and follow historic highway 99 north for a short while before heading east into the foothills. We are going to take a little known short cut up to the mountain town of Tehachapi, and from there we'll head into the Piute Mountains. The Piute's are a wonderful place to ride, trails snake everywhere and the scenery is just wonderful we are constantly exposed to fabulous views as we are running along at nearly 7000 foot elevations. We will arrive at camp early enough to get set up and explore the area before dinner. If you enjoy clear mountain evenings, starlit skies and the smell of the pines you'll be in the right place tonight.

Day 3 – Saturday:

Today we head for Kennedy Meadows via Jawbone Canyon. Jawbone is legendary in the "off road world" it has been the heart of California's desert playground since "dirt bikes were invented". The ride down from the Piute's into Jawbone canyon is remarkable. There are about 30 hairpin switchbacks that provide a 3000 foot descent from the pine scented mountains to the desert floor. The transition in landscape is remarkable too. From lush pine forests to dry arid cactus in less than 20 minutes is a bit odd, but its really interest ing to see such dramatic changes in such short distances. We will work our way through the back country of the Mojave Desert via dove springs, and possibly into the El Paso Mountains if we have time. We will meet the support truck along the way for a good lunch, and continue to Kennedy Meadows. The road to Kennedy Meadows is one of the "twistiest" in the state. Its awesome, if you like to "drag a knee" you will have a lot of fun. We will spend the night again high in the pine trees with a big campfires and another great "RawHyde meal"

Day 4 – Sunday:

We'll have a leisurely breakfast, some good coffee and contemplate our riding options for the return journey. Any direction you choose has great options, the way we came yesterday afternoon toward 395 is awesome, or we can head east toward Lake Isabella, and if you are heading back to L.A. we can show you a wonderful, and unknown dirt road that leads into Bakersfield.

Price: $495
