(March Ride)
ANZA BORREGO:
The Anza Borrego desert is renowned for its beauty, and unique landscape. RawHyde has been invited by the “South Coast BMW riders” to join them for the weekend at a (to be announced) campground in Borrego springs. This will be very relaxed weekend with category 1 and 2 rides. With luck the wild flowers will be in early bloom this is part of the attraction to Borrego Springs.
Itinerary:
We will meet at the campground in Borrego Springs Thursday evening. We’ll have a Bar-B-Q dinner, and spend some time planning our rides for the weekend.Since we will be at a campground in Borrego Springs we’ll be using our Hub and Spoke program, and we’ll have the Safari Trailer with us. This format will give you the flexibility to “ride with a group” or explore the area alone or with a friend.
We will be taking several rides in this strange and wonderful landscape.
Sandstone Canyon:
If you could only do one ride in the Borrego Springs area, this would be it. An extremely narrow, canyon with walls 200 feet high, primeval landscapes, and strange “wind caves” provide much to see and explore on this half day ride.Fonts Point:
We will also take a run to “Fonts point” which is an overlook with a view of the Borrego Badlands. The point was named for father Pedro Font, who chronicled the journey of Juan Batista De Anza, a Spanish explorer who spent a good amount of time in this area in the 1700’s. The local state park bears his name.Seventeen Palms:
Most desert areas have an oasis or two, and this one is Borrego’s. Otherwise known as the prospectors’ post office, this oasis served as the unofficial source of information for travel ers in the old days. In those days prospectors left messages for one another in large glass bottles placed in the trees. This habit and method of leaving notes is still carried on today by visitors.Price: $495 or $595
