Facebook is a very popular social-networking website that allows anyone to sign up for their account. Unlike other social-networking sites, Facebook caters to individual networks so that a person can connect with others in his/her college, high school, company, or geographical area. Here's how to create a new Facebook account.
- Open your preferred internet browser and type www.facebook.com in the address box.
Fill out the registration form displayed under the "sign up" text; all of the fields must be completed in order to continue. DO NOT INPUT THE PASSWORD TO YOUR EMAIL ACCOUNT. Input a password for the Facebook account you are about to create.- Follow the Facebook steps:
- You will be taken to your profile page. At the top will be a message directing you to your email. Click on the "go to your email" button to be directed to the email account you supplied earlier. There you will see an email with the subject "Just one more step to get started on Facebookâ." Click the green "complete Signup" button. You may be asked to input a confirmation number. This number can be found in the email you were just sent.
-
Password note: to ensure maximum protection it is best to choose a password that includes both letters and numbers. Do not choose simply a word or a date or name. Most hackers use programs that
can repeatedly generate every word in any dictionary and date sequences in an attempt to gain access to your accounts. By combining a word(s) with a series of numbers or even better a random sequence, this will
significantly reduce the chances of unauthorized access.
Step One - Add Friends (click to view sample)
Based on the information provided, you may have some "friend suggestions" of people you may know. If you are sure you know any of these suggestions, you can send them a friend request by clicking "add as friend". This will send a request to that person to either approve or ignore. You may skip this step if you wish.
Step Two - Find Friends (click to view sample)
If you choose to, you can input your email address and email password so that Facebook can search your email contacts and find them on the Social Network (Facebook). This is completely optional and can be skipped if you feel uncomfortable in giving your password. We suggest you DO NOT perform this step and select "Skip Step". You can search these people out by sending them an email to search you out on Facebook or find them by using the "search" function after you create your account.
Step Three - Profile Information (click to view sample)
Fill out some of your profile info such as what company you work for and where you went to school. Inputting this information may cross-reference, for example; your school with your birth-date to find matches in an attempt to find old classmates. Again, this is completely optional and you may choose "skip" if you wish.
Depending on the info inputted here, you may be presented with another list of people you may potentially know. Again, if you are sure you know any of these suggestions, you can send them a friend request by clicking "add as friend".
Step Four - Profile Picture (click to view sample)
If you have a picture of yourself on your computer that is particularly dashing, you can click on "upload a photo from your computer". Or you can take a picture with your webcam. We suggest bypassing the substandard webcam-pic in favor of finding or taking a picture of your "bad-self" on your motorcycle. Click "save and continue" or "skip".
Adding RawHyde
- Now it is Time to become a "fan" of RawHyde Adventures. In Facebook there are generally two types of profiles you can follow and keep track of. The first is "friends" who are individual people you can befriend and interact with. Then there are groups / companies / organizations which consist of two or more people who manage and post to these profiles. Think of it as a smaller, elite community within the Facebook community. You become a "fan" of or "like" these profiles.
In the Search box at the top of your profile, type "RawHyde Adventures". RawHyde will show up in the results. Click on the name to be directed to our profile. Next to the title name, click the "like" button. You may be prompted to input a security test. This is to ensure that you are not a computer who has become self-aware; attempting to gather information to rise up against your human oppressors.
Now click on "profile" in the upper right of the page. This will take you back to your profile page where you will note that you now "like" RawHyde Adventures (see lower column to left of profile page).
You now have a direct link to other like-minded adventurers as well as updates on all our events and goins-ons!
Tips & safe practices for your Facebook account.
- Be careful when providing personal details, even when you're giving them to your friends.
- Don't upload any pictures that you'll regret later. Anyone can save them and share them with people you dislike or do not know.
- It's a good idea to change your privacy settings to prevent people you haven't confirmed as friends from accessing information on your profile. Click on "Account" and then "Privacy Settings" in the drop-down menu.
